Employee Expertise, Responsibility and Sense of Family Propel Crane Builders To Remodeling Excellence
COMPANY RECEIVES TOP INDUSTRY AWARDS
Nashville, TN (June 12, 2002) When asked what his number-one accomplishment has been this year, David Crane, a fifteen year resident of Franklin, Tennessee and President of Crane Builders, doesn’t hesitate in his answer: “Spending more time with my family,” he proudly proclaims. And, Crane is a man who has a lot to be proud about professionally. In the last month, Crane has accepted the Big 50 Award from REMODELING MAGAZINE, as one of the top remodeling companies in the nation, and received the remodeling industry’s prestigious Chrysalis Award, as the Tennessee Remodeler of the Year for 2002.
“As a company were very honored by these two awards because we know they reflect a total group effort,” says Crane. “When I started this company 25 years ago, two of my main priorities were to committing to spending time with my family and to operate a debt-free business, and I’ve done everything in my power to stay true to my own mission statement. Our employees are like family as well, and we attribute all of our success to how we treat people. We treat each other with respect in this company, and each client is treated as if he is our only client.”
Crane Builders has made a name for itself with clients in Middle Tennessee through diverse remodeling projects ranging from new construction to high-end custom additions. With a combined office and field staff of 10 people, the company selects anywhere from 25-35 projects per year, performing a majority of its jobs in Brentwood, Belle Meade, Forrest Hills, Franklin, Green Hills, Hillwood, Oak Hill and West Meade.
“We have learned over the years how to listen to our clients, and that is as important as any skill we could bring to the table,” says John Petrucelli the company’s production manager. “Remodeling your home can be a very personal thing. We feel like were good at discovering exactly what a client wants, and where a person may only be in the early stages of thinking through their ideas, we enjoy bringing suggestions to the table.”
Employee suggestions are encouraged at Crane Builders, and remain a huge reason for the long-term success of the company. “At our last annual retreat, our employees rewrote the company’s mission statement, recognizing the talent of individuals and their capacity to contribute to the success of our company,” says Crane. “This process has resulted in the implementation of a field-driven communications system, with our lead carpenters assuming much more responsibility. This has produced much tighter controls of things like labor dollars and materials waste and has streamlined other processes that were previously not as efficient.”
“Our employees are always looking for ways to improve.” And, as Crane Builders continues to improve, David Crane is also committed to improving the Nashville community.
For the past fourteen years, Crane has been on the board of Affordable Housing Resources, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to providing housing options for low to moderate income households. He also serves on the board of The Resource Foundation, an organization which raises money to provide affordable housing.
“I guess you could say that when it comes down to it, helping families is truly what were all about,” says Crane. “We just happen to be in the remodeling business.”
