the challenge
These homeowners relocated from Hollywood and purchased a home based on a fabulous location, bordering the beautiful Cheekwood mansion. They knew it would require a total makeover and sought Crane Builders’ expertise to achieve the grandeur they desired. The kitchen was small and outdated, as were most of the bathrooms. Their backyard was magnificent, but not fully showcased due to an inadequate covered porch and deck. The great room seemed cramped when compared with the size of the home.
our approach
One of our favorite design partners helped the homeowners with their vision to create a timelessly beautiful home on the main floor, while honoring their love of the film industry and showcasing their incredible collection of memorabilia.
Once plans were in place, the Crane Builders team worked extensively to move and remove walls, relocate steps, tear out the existing kitchen and bathrooms, and pour foundations on a beautiful new sunroom and deck. Since the homeowners chose to live in their residence throughout the project, all construction was carefully coordinated for minimal disruption.
the results
The finished project resulted in a better flow to the house, a dream gourmet kitchen, luxurious new bathrooms, and a bright, open sunroom. Great care was taken to fully integrate the sunroom into the existing layout of the house. Windows were added and relocated to keep the new kitchen light, and windows and French doors maximized the view and increased the filtration of sunlight to the sunroom. The beamed and vaulted ceiling in the sunroom boasts a breathtaking stone fireplace and a floor of large format Belgian blue limestone. As a portion of the new kitchen, a custom cabinet was constructed with a bar sink and the countertop extends out to be a serving bar in the sunroom.
The sunroom and new deck allow the homeowners to take full advantage of their rear yard which borders Cheekwood, the city’s most heralded gardens.
